We are rapidly approaching the end of our journey learning basic Digital Circuits. There are 3 wks left of class time follow by the Final Exam. Therefore, let's Get Busy!
Homework Assignment 7 due 2/8
MAKE Magazine Article. This assignment puts into practice some of the Digital Circuit methods discussed in class. Read the "Digital Clock" Project (Handout) (Make Magazine) article and answer the following questions.
(a) Convert all of the binary numbers mentioned in the article to their equivalent decimal values. Show Your Work!!!
(b) Calculate the time for the crystal's frequency specified in the article. Show Your Work!!!
(c) Draw the correct electrical symbol for the crystal discussed in the article.
(d) BCD is used for what timing implementation function for the Digital Clock? (Write out this question with your answer)
(e) The section entitled “The LED Display” explains how the 7 Segment LED Display is configured using the MAX7221 LED Driver IC. Draw the subcircuit schematic diagram for one LED Driver using the appropriate electronic component for sinking current through the optoelectronic device. Label all components using REF DESIGNATORS (ex R1, LED1, etc.).
(f) Explain how this Digital Clock circuit differs from the Tick Tock Digital Clock lab project (Write out the question with your answer!)
