Hi Class, here's what's coming down the pike for this week's classroom events.
Chapter 12 Lecture Notes are available for downloading:
Next Friday will be the first Exam of the course. Please review the Study Guide to help prepare for this Exam.
The Exam will be administered the first hour of class follow by an hour of lecture then Lab. There will be no homework assignment but I encourage you to review what problems you need to know how to solve for this exam. Select problems in the book that will help prepare you for the exam.
I'll be posted additional Tech Resources on this webpage before next week's class (7/7) so check this site periodically for updates.
Last, Homework assignments and Lab Reports are due tomorrow. There is also a small Quiz that will be given before the lecture by the substitute Instructor. Check 6/25/06 post for what to study in preparation of the Quiz.
D.Wilcher, posted 6/28/06:
Here's the Laboratory Report Template as mentioned in the 6/25/06.
The information explained on each page should help you to write the report for last week's and upcoming laboratory experiments. Please follow the instructions of the template and don't make it harder than what it is. As an Electronics Technician or Engineering Technologist you must be able to write Laboratory or Test Reports clearly. Therefore, here's the opportunity to gain some real world experience by writing technical documents in a classroom learning environment. Note: On page 3 of the template a 5 point summary is required for each experiment conducted in the lab.
D.Wilcher, posted 6/25/06:
Hello Class, As stated I'll will not be teaching the 6/30 session but that doesn't stop the show. The substitute Instructor will conduct the class, therefore the group will meet for Lecture and Lab as regularly scheduled. The Lecture notes for Friday's class can be downloaded from here:
Also, the solution for Figure 29.1 of the Lab Manual can be downloaded from here:
Homework Assignments:
Here's a list of Homework Assignments due 6/30:
| Read section 11.5 Applied Technology: Alternating Voltage Application | |

| Lab Report for Experiments 30-32 (The Lab Report Format will be posted by 6/28/06) |
Additional Resources:
As an Electronics Technician and Engineering Technologist data sheets are important arsenal to have in your Technology Toolbox. The 2 data sheets discussed in Friday's lecture are available and we will review specific information regarding these design-analysis documents throughout the remainder of the course. I've also included the Multisim Squarewave circuit model for your personal CEET evaluation.
| PLL (Phase Locked Loop) Tutorial | |
| Testing a Phase Detector | |
| Square Wave Generator Circuit Model |
Quizzes:
Know the following items for this weeks Quiz (6/30):
| Know how to calculate the Period (p) and Frequency (f) of a given waveform (Non Sinusoidal and Sinusoidal) | |
| Know how to calculate the instantaneous current (i) and voltage (v) of a sinewave. | |
| On page 584, know how to calculate the AC voltage and current parameters shown in Table 11-2 when analyzing a Alternating Current Resistive Circuit. |
I will return on 7/7. Enjoy!!!
D.Wilcher, posted 6/21/06:
In last week's lab there was a question regarding the "Polarity Switch" ,which is on page 172, of the lab manual. Basically, the polarity switch allows the signal to be inverted thus allowing a Subtraction operation to be perform when analyzing 2 waveforms on the Oscilloscope's Cathode Ray Tube (CRT). This switch is generally located within the area of Channel 2's (Channel B) volts/div selector switch. Here are 2 additional resources on the Oscilloscopes and how they work.
| An online tutorial | |
| The Oscilloscope: Operation and Applications |
Start reading both documents paying close attention to circuit and or Block diagrams, terminology, and applications. These documents will be discussed periodically during the remainder of this course.
To continue with discussion of Non-Sinusoidal and Sinusoidal Waveforms, here's a Reference Design sketch using a small embedded robotics controller known as the Handy Cricket. This Friday's(6/23/06) session I will do a demo on how to generate a squarewave with an adjustable output (Amplitude) control using this embedded controller.
